Planner Binding Margins: Left, Right & Mirrored PDF Pages

Choose 20 mm binding space, understand mirrored page parity, and test single-page or duplex printing before punching your planner.

Leave writing outside the bound edge. This tool changes the drawing area inside the same A4 or Letter page; it does not scale the finished PDF or add a second sheet.

The four choices

ChoiceLeft/right spaceStarting use
Standard34 pt each, about 12 mmLoose sheets and clipping
Left20 mm left; about 12 mm rightSingle-sided pages bound on the left
RightAbout 12 mm left; 20 mm rightPages bound on the right
MirrorPage 1 left; page 2 right; repeatTwo-sided pages after a binding test

Twenty millimeters is the selected layout allowance, not a guarantee for every punch or binder. Measure your hardware and test it. Top and bottom layout remain as before; only the left/right drawing edges change. Optional sections and day areas become a little narrower.

Check page two before printing the pack

Choose Mirror in the generator, then preview page one and page two. The wider edge should move from left to right. The preflight states each page’s actual margins. With undated copies, the text is otherwise the same, so the edge is the difference to inspect.

A single-page export keeps its original side

Exporting page two alone produces a one-page file with the original right-hand allowance. The tool does not relabel it as a new odd page. If you intend to print that page as a front sheet bound on the left, change to Left or create a new one-page setup. This is why the preview’s margin note matters.

Make a two-page physical test

  1. Match the PDF paper and orientation to the printer.
  2. Use Actual size/100% where possible; Fit changes the physical allowance along with the rest of the page.
  3. Print two pages, turn them as you intend to read them, and check the bound edge.
  4. If the reverse is upside down, adjust the reader’s long-edge/short-edge option.
  5. Place the sheets against your binder or punch before committing to the full run.

See the printing guide for scaling and download behavior. Adding a single PDF cover page before the planner can change odd/even placement. Printing a range beginning on an even page can also put the expected back on a new front sheet. Inspect the assembled file and test again after either change.

What this does not do

These settings do not impose booklet signatures, add crop marks, move holes for a specific binder, or guarantee printer margins. They retain one week per page. For four study weeks use the study starter; for intermittent use choose undated pages.

Sources and validation boundary

Reviewed October 5, 2026. Adobe’s sizing guidance explains the difference between Actual size and Fit. The official Weekly Planner PDF generator also lists binding allowance; this is an established task, not a first-of-its-kind claim. Our implementation is checked as PDF geometry; a physical printer and your hardware still need the test above.
